Reflections on our Recent Trips

Our programs provide valuable opportunities and skills for the development of young people. ATL@S trips, Bluelight, and Blake Inspire are all aimed at this goal.

The ATL@S trip was a wonderful experience, with students enjoying a rare sunny day sailing towards the Coromandel. They prepared a meal and even had a morning swim before setting sail again. They went kayaking, put up tents, and prepared dinner during the trip.

Nineteen young people, recommended by our Blue Light branches such as North Harbour, Whangarei, Taranaki, Manurewa, and Otara, had an unforgettable sailing experience on Blue Light's Leadership Voyage aboard Steinlager 2.

The trip included learning how to sail a super yacht around the Hauraki Gulf islands, under the guidance of NZ Sailing Trust. The young people learned valuable leadership skills, such as teamwork, navigation, communication, motivation, and problem-solving. Apart from the sailing, the trip's highlights included exciting activities like searching for Kiwi on Rotoroa Island, exploring for copper on Kawau Island, building rafts, swimming at dawn, and witnessing beautiful sunrises and sunsets.

A group of 21 young sailors from New Zealand had a great experience on the Blake Inspire trip. They learned about leadership and sustainability, made new friends, and visited interesting places despite bad weather. These sailors are now ready to make a positive impact in their yacht clubs thanks to the support of Yachting New Zealand and BLAKE.
