General

  • We run a range of experiences aboard our legendary sailing yachts, including:

    • Youth and Education Programmes (1–5 days)

    • Holiday Adventures for youth aged 15–21

  • Our trips operate on the iconic yachts Steinlager 2 and Lion New Zealand.

Booking and payments

  • For individual journeys like school holiday programmes or Friday racing is simple just book online and you will receive a confirmation email with joining instructions.

     

    For groups please contact sales@nzsailingtrust.com and we will be in touch to tailor make your voyage.

    • Minimum: 14 passengers

    • Maximum: 20 passengers for Corporates and 24 for youth voyages

  • For Individual Cancellations:

    • If the booking is cancelled or amended within 14 days of the departure date the full value of booking will be payable.

    • If a confirmed booking is cancelled prior to 15 days before the departure date a 20% cancellation fee will apply.

    Group Booking Cancellations:

    • Over 30 days: 20% cancellation fee

    • 15–30 days: 50% cancellation fee

    • Within 14 days: Full amount payable

    NZST Cancellations:

    We will offer an alternative date or full refund if the trip is cancelled due to unsafe weather or unforeseen circumstances.

  • Yes, subject to availability. Changes made within 14 days of departure may incur a fee for individuals and within 30 days for Corporate and Business bookings.

Joining instructions

  • Auckland Viaduct Marina. The entrane gate in located on the Eastern Viaduct at the Explore Groups Kiosk. You’ll receive full details in your confirmation.

  • 0900 for our school holiday voyages

    1600 for our Friday Night Racing

    For group bookings the time is arranged with the group organiser.

  • IF BOOKING TRAVEL PLEASE NOTE:

    When arranging flights, we recommend flying into Auckland Airport and booking a SkyDrive shuttle to Sky City and then it’s a short walk down the hill to Princes Wharf. Please allow a minimum of 1 hour to get from the Airport to the Eastern Viaduct - Explore Group Kiosk.

    For the return flight home, please book the flight and Skydive shuttle, that allows for ample time to say their goodbyes and get themselves out to the Airport via the SkyDrive shuttle.

Health & safety

    • NZ residents: Covered under ACC.

    • International guests: Arrange your own insurance.

  • Our crew is trained to assist. Seasickness tablets may be recommended.

  • Yes, while sailing or in tenders. Lifejackets are provided.

  • Each yacht has at least two toilets. No showers are available.

  • Limited space. Pack light using a soft sports bag.

  • You’ll receive a gear list. Essentials include:

    • Layers, waterproof jacket

    • Swimwear, towel, toiletries

    • Hat, sunscreen, snacks, water bottle

  • Yes, but at your own risk. Use waterproof protection and a wrist strap.

    For school groups, please refer to our mobile phone policy.

  • Yes. Skippers have SRL or equivalent, and crew are experienced sailors.

  • Yes. We cater for most dietary requirements or recommend to bring your own food. You can talk to our team to ensure we can cater for you.

  • Learn to sail, beach clean ups, teamwork, problem solving and communication activities.

  • No. We do need to be aware of your ability for overnight voyages as we offer swimming activities. Swimming activities are all fully supervised and have buoyancy aids for guests with less confidence.

    For youth trips in particular, we ask the following questions:

    • My child is a non-swimmer

    • My child can confidently and completely swim 25 metres

    • My child can confidently and completely swim 50 metres

    • My child can confidently and completely swim 200 metres

    • My child is confident in deep water

    • My child is able to survival float on their back for 2-3 minutes

    • My child is safety conscious in and around water

General

Participation & fitness

  • No, you’ll learn all you need to know on board from our experienced crew.

  • Moderate agility required. You’ll need to use ladders and move around the deck.

  • Yes! You can choose to participate with helm, hoist sails, and navigation.

  • We sail in most conditions. If unsafe, the trip will be rescheduled. Wet weather trousers and jackets are provided.
