Sailing has always been a part of my life. There is something about the wind the water and the power of harnessing your environment. I have sailed the Gulf all my life and for the past 20 years on our family 32 foot yacht. I have raced, I have cruised and I have enjoyed it all.

In July 2019 my husband Glen and I packed up our 2 boys (Blake 9 and Leo 12) and flew to Croatia, our goal, boat shopping. 32 feet was no longer big enough for our family and all we wanted to do.

We took the opportunity to spend 18 months sailing home. We brought a Grand Soleil 50, WAVE and started our journey home. Then it’s the story we hear over and over, Covid-19! Our 18 months turned into 42 months, we were marooned in the Caribbean with the Panama Canal closed, there was no route home. We made the most of our time in St Vincent & the Grenadines exploring the ocean. December 2021 we started again arriving in Opua in November 2022. An amazing journey made better by the people we met along the way.

As a family we are now enjoying WAVE in the Hauraki Gulf. When I am not out sailing I am watching dingy sailing from my home club Wakatere Boating Club.
