Mangere College Sailing Adventure
Last term, a group of students from Mangere College including myself had the exciting opportunity to take part in a five-day sailing trip with New Zealand Sailing trust, getting the opportunity to ride The Lion New Zealand. It was an experience filled with adventure, teamwork, beautiful scenery, and plenty of memories. From the moment we arrived, everyone was excited to get out on the water. We spent time sailing around the beautiful coastline, enjoying the fresh sea air and taking in the amazing views. The calm waters, green hills, and rocky coastline made the trip feel like a real escape from our normal routine.
Throughout the trip, teamwork was an important part of the experience. We had to communicate, listen to instructions, and help one another while on board. Everyone had different roles and responsibilities, which helped us understand how important cooperation is when sailing. We also had plenty of opportunities to relax, talk, laugh, and get to know each other better.
The photograph above captures one of the memorable moments from the trip. Our group is gathered together beside the water, with the hills and coastline in the background. Despite the chilly weather, everyone is smiling and enjoying the moment. It is a great reminder of the friendships and memories we made during our time together.
The original plan was for the trip to last five days, but unfortunately, we had to finish the trip earlier than expected. There was a minor hygiene and health concern, so the decision was made to end the trip early as a precaution. Although it was disappointing not to complete all five days, everyone's health and safety came first. Even though the trip was shortened, the experience was still worthwhile. We learned about sailing, teamwork, responsibility, and looking after one another. Most importantly, we created memories that we will remember for a long time.
Our sailing adventure with Lion New Zealand may have ended earlier than planned, but the experience, friendships, and memories will stay with us.
