Help a young person discover their true potential at sea
Our youth development voyages on Lion New Zealand and Steinlager 2 create life-changing opportunities for rangatahi across Aotearoa. Over the course of a week on board, students learn teamwork, leadership, resilience, and confidence, skills that stay with them long after they return to shore. They also build friendships, discover strengths they didn’t know they had, and experience the magic of sailing New Zealand’s most iconic yachts.
We believe every young person who wants to join our voyages should be able to do so no matter their circumstances. But we can’t make that happen without the generous support of people like you. Now more than ever, our youth need encouragement, opportunities, and connection.
Our scholarship fund helps remove barriers, whether financial, geographical, or personal that might otherwise keep a young person from stepping on board.

When you contribute to our scholarship fund, you’re helping bridge the gap for young people whose families or schools are committed to supporting them but need a helping hand to make it possible. By covering 50% of the voyage fee, your generosity ensures that financial barriers don’t stand in the way of life-changing opportunities.
Your support allows rangatahi to step on board Lion New Zealand or Steinlager 2 and take part in an unforgettable voyage, building confidence, resilience, leadership skills, and lifelong friendships. The impact doesn’t stop at sea; it carries through to their schools, families, and communities, inspiring positive change well beyond the voyage itself.

Scholarship eligibility
Our scholarship funding is available for our 5 day school holiday programmes.
Applicants must meet the following funding criteria:
I am a New Zealand Citizen or Resident currently living in New Zealand
I am aged between 14-18 years
I am volunteering in my community or I am experiencing financial/personal hardship
Our scholarships are valued at $787.50 - this covers 50% of the voyage fee.
Scholarship funding is only available for select Discovery courses throughout each year.
Please do not book yourself on a voyage and then apply for a Discovery scholarship. Successful applicants will be booked by our team.
